Oct 08, 2018  How to Get Around Browser Restrictions. The way a website knows what browser you’re using is by using a value called the “user agent”—a piece of data that’s sent with every request you make to a website, telling the server what browser and operating system you’re using. Mar 24, 2020  Internet Explorer landed on Macintosh computers in 1996 with version 2 of the browser. However, Microsoft’s browser became the default option as part of Mac.

A beta version of the Microsoft Edge browser has been available for several months ahead of the official, stable launch.

  1. Use the most recent versions of the following browsers for the best experience with Office for the web. Windows 10: Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer 11, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. Windows 8, 8.1, or 7 (SP1): Internet Explorer 11, Firefox or Chrome. Windows Vista (SP2): Firefox or Chrome, but some features may not be available.

  3. As we all know, the Internet Explorer is a software owned by Microsoft and comes by default on all PC running on Windows OS. Being a Mac user whose PC runs on OS X, you do not have access to Microsoft software for your Mac PC. Well, good news you can now download the Internet Explorer on your Mac.
  4. Oct 18, 2019 Sidenote: IE Mac was a thing back in the 90s’. In fact, Microsoft’s proprietary browser was once the default browser for Mac. However, the Windows 10 maker ceased the development of IE for Mac in.

Microsoft's aim with the Edge browser is to provide better web compatibility with improved performance for customers while also making sure there's less fragmentation of the web for developers.

Edge for Mac has been designed to be similar to the Edge experience on Windows, but Microsoft has added optimizations to make it feel more Mac-like. Extensions can be added from the Microsoft Addons store or other Chromium-based web stores like the Chrome Web Store.

The browser includes tracking prevention (enabled by default), customization options, built-in search capabilities with Bing, an Internet Explorer mode for viewing older web pages, and a new wave-style logo that replaces the traditional 'e' that past Microsoft browsers have used.

For Mac users who plan to use Edge, the browser is available cross platform and can be downloaded on Mac, Windows, and iOS devices with the Edge iOS app.

Microsoft is planning regular updates for the Edge browser, with Canary, Dev, and Beta updates on a daily, weekly, and multi-week basis. The next stable version of Edge will see an update sometime in February.

Whether you develop for the web and need to see how your site or web app displays itself in multiple browsers, or you just want to visit a site that requires a particular browser that you don't want to use, you may eventually need to use a browser other than Safari. While most of the web is free to access through any browser you'd like, there are occasionally websites (particularly older ones) that need you to use browsers like Internet Explorer, or worse yet, would like you to be on a Windows PC. Or maybe you'd like to see how your site or web app presents itself in Safari on iPhone or iPad, or Chrome on Windows.

Luckily, Safari on Mac has the answer for you. Safari allows you to masquerade as the user of other browsers and Windows through a tool in its Develop menu: changing the user agent. Changing the user agent tells websites that you're using a browser other than the version of Safari that you're using on your Mac. It can event tell a website that you're running Windows. And while Internet Explorer was removed from the default list of user agents in macOS Catalina, you can still add it as on by changing the user agent string manually.

Safari for Mac supports the following user agents:

Best Browsers For Mac

  • Safari for iPhone
  • Safari for iPad
  • Safari for iPod touch
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Google Chrome for Mac
  • Google Chrome for Windows
  • Firefox for Mac
  • Firefox for Windows

Keep in mind that, though Safari will appear to be another browser, it won't actually be that browser. Any web app or site that requires, say, Chrome's Blink rendering engine (which Safari doesn't have) won't work properly, even if Safari's user agent is changed to Google Chrome.

Here's how you go about changing the user agent in Safari.

How to access websites in Safari that require a PC or another browser
